About Us
Head Trauma Support Project (HTSP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with acquired brain injury and the families and caregivers who walk alongside them. Since 1979, we have provided a welcoming space for connection, understanding, and shared experience.
Who We Serve
We serve adults living with acquired brain injury, including those affected by traumatic and non traumatic brain injuries. We also support family members, caregivers, friends, and others who are part of the brain injury journey.
Our services are available to individuals in Sacramento County and surrounding areas.
What We Do
We bring people together through free support groups, social activities, and community connection. Our programs are designed to strengthen social networks, encourage participation in daily life, and support overall quality of life.
Support groups are facilitated by licensed professionals and trained volunteers, community members passionate about helping brain injury survivors, to guide conversations and foster a respectful, supportive environment.
Our Story
Head Trauma Support Project, Inc. began in 1979 when families of adults living with acquired brain injury came together to support one another through shared experience. At that time, there were few resources in the Sacramento area to help individuals and families adjust to life after brain injury.
Acquired brain injury can result from traumatic causes, such as an insult to the brain by external physical force, or non traumatic causes, such as stroke, tumors, or infectious disease. Regardless of how the injury occurs, the impact on individuals and families can be life changing. HTSP was created to offer connection, understanding, and community during that journey.
Over the years, HTSP has grown to serve adults living with acquired brain injury, as well as their significant others, families, caregivers, and members of the broader community. Our programs bring people together with a shared goal of promoting understanding, strengthening social networks, increasing participation in daily life, and supporting overall quality of life.
Through regular group meetings, participants engage in meaningful conversation and social activities in a supportive environment. Family and caregiver groups are facilitated by licensed professionals, while adults living with acquired brain injury participate in activities supported by trained student and community volunteers.
Today, Head Trauma Support Project, Inc. provides free services to individuals and families living with acquired brain injury in Sacramento County and surrounding areas, including Placer, Yolo, El Dorado, and San Joaquin counties.
